"The territory no longer precedes the map, nor does it survive it. It is nevertheless the map that precedes the territory—precession of simulacra—that engenders the territory" - Jean Baudrillard

CFL Presents: SIMULACRA, a week-long artistic residency at Community Futures Lab with Pittsburgh-based artist and activist Joy KMT ( Tabernacle of Immaculate Perception + Sanctuary Pittsburgh) creating, performing, mapping, workshopping, and experimenting with new material.March 18-24, 2017.

Artist Statement:
For Black people in America whose ancestors were enslaved, the map of reality was created through Blackness and Blackness has been defined by the map. In this residency, I intend to define the terrain of hyperreality through the lens of Blackness using various modalities, as well as create new maps of reality based upon what has survived and chart a trajectory towards a reality that rejects euphemisms and connects our bodies, our minds and our hearts to a Black Future.

March 18, 2017 - Opening of SIMULACRA

March 22 - WORKSHOP: We will explore the technology of language and the poetics of worldbuilding, using the language of the everyday, the absurd and the supernatural, while holding space for the indescribable to map Black futures. Feel free to bring poetry to workshop.

March 23 - PERFORMANCE: This Black Maroon: Black time & futures in a hyper real world. This interactive poetry/ritual performance explores the boundaries of space time as a Black woman, identity, relationships and the limits of language and place in a post-human interface.

March 24 - Closing Reception for SIMULACRA Mini-Residency with Joy KMT and F.A.M. Exhibition
