"The territory no longer precedes the map, nor does it survive it. It is nevertheless the map that precedes the territory—precession of simulacra—that engenders the territory" - Jean Baudrillard

CFL Presents: SIMULACRA, a week-long artistic residency at Community Futures Lab with Pittsburgh-based artist and activist Joy KMT ( Tabernacle of Immaculate Perception + Sanctuary Pittsburgh) creating, performing, mapping, workshopping, and experimenting with new material.March 18-24, 2017.

Artist Statement:
For Black people in America whose ancestors were enslaved, the map of reality was created through Blackness and Blackness has been defined by the map. In this residency, I intend to define the terrain of hyperreality through the lens of Blackness using various modalities, as well as create new maps of reality based upon what has survived and chart a trajectory towards a reality that rejects euphemisms and connects our bodies, our minds and our hearts to a Black Future.
